SKYLAR GRAY - ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

My name is Skylar Gray and I am currently in my junior year at Maple Grove Senior High School. I was born in Arkansas and moved to Minnesota when I was only two years old. I live in Maple Grove with my Mom (Stephanie), Dad (Jamison), and little sister (Rylie).

My primary passion is volleyball, which I play year-round. I am a varsity starter and captain for the Crimson, play for the top 17's team at MN Select, and am part of the USA Volleyball National Team pipeline. I love to mentor and coach younger players in the sport. During my sophomore year, I accepted an offer and verbally committed to continue my education and play volleyball for the University of Minnesota once I graduate from Maple Grove in the class of 2021.
Being able to have deep relationships with my friends and spend time with my family forms the cornerstone of my life. I am an animal lover and spend hours giving attention to and getting love from my cats Autumn and Gracie.

I have always had an interest in art, loving to draw and sing, and wanted a chance to try expressing myself through sculpture, pottery and ceramics. I feel like art can be an outlet for the feelings you have both during good and tough times. Personally I like to experiment with fun and positive projects since they can help those who experience your art to feel those same positive emotions.

I dream of being able to help other people and hope to be able to do that via a career in sports medicine after I complete my schooling. Being a great artist means being able to look at things from different perspectives and to be willing to try things that may be considered odd or out of the box. I believe that my artistic experiences will strengthen these characteristics that could make me better able to make a difference for others down the road.
